Is It a Family Curse? Understanding Ancestral Karma and Healing
We are all aware that our genetic lineage effects our health, how tall we are, what color our skin and hair is, our likelihood of having cancer, diabetes of addiction issues. Traditions, religion, attitudes about politics, race and family structure are all inherited values and ways of being from your family line. These values become belief systems, which move through a family, sometimes for generations. If you look at your own life, and you look at the values of your parents and grandparents - do you hold the same values? Would you have chosen those values if you hadn’t been born into that family, if you had an alternate choice? Have you already chosen to move away from your family to escape your family’s ideals, values or beliefs?
Now consider that what is also brought forward through our family lineage, and when I say lineage, I’m talking blood line, are things that may have happened to our ancestors many generations back. A person might experience an unreasonable fear, anger or sorrow that seems to have nothing to do with their actual life experiences. These emotions seem to get triggered by certain events or situations. These emotions, patterns and ways of being could actually belong to your great great great Grand Mother - they are not yours unless you choose them.
For example: a family may be experiencing continual bad luck due to a transgression perpetuated by an ancestor that needs to be put right, or there may be a health issue that seems to plague multiple members of the family, or there is an automatic, deeply ingrained sense that you and your family will never be successful or you’ll never have money, or there may be an underlying axium that “life is hard” when it doesn’t have to be that way.
You might hear an off-handed remark such as “Oh, there’s that family curse again!” There might be trepidation around this proclamation or even a bit of jest. They don’t want to believe it. But family curses DO exist. Some might call it family karma. But why should you be paying for your great grandfather’s transgression? These curses, or lines of karma, can be broken and healed during ancestral work.
I will bring us back to the point of original trauma or transgression that needs to be released. This might be 3 generations back or 7 or 10! But we’ll find it. This is a prfound opportunity to briefly meet and speak to your ancestors, most of which you have never met. Knowing their names is not important - some people have good geneological records, some do not. The records are not necessary, although they are helpful. Your ancestors are connected to you by blood, and it is that blood line that we will follow back and connect with. In a session we will pick either your Mather’s or your Father’s line. We will not do both lines in one session. It is simply too much work to do, and too much energy to move. So know, that to complete this work for both sides of your lineage, it will take at least 2 sessions. If there are multiple, deep issues, it may take 3 or 4 sessions.
The Basket of Gold
Once the lineage trauma has been dealt with, there is also an opportunity to bring back good things that our ancestors have to share with us. We can ask for gifts, talents and wisdom to come through to us as well. What were their strengths, what did they hold dear? These blessings can be asked for, and in my experience, are happily and willingly bestowed. I try to include this in the same session with the trauma correction and clearing, if time permits.
